Hair stars Will Swenson and Gavin Creel will host a live viewing party of the Public Theater's previously announced one-night-only benefit Courage in Concert: The Songs from Mother Courage and Her Children at Joe's Pub. Performing in the concert are starry cast members from the Public's 2006 Shakespeare in the Park production, including Meryl Streep, Kevin Kline, Austin Pendleton, Jenifer Lewis and Frederick Weller. The beneift will take place October 19 at The Public's Newman Theater. A limited number of tickets for the viewing party, which begins at 7:30, will be available beginning October 6.
Joining Streep, Kline, Lewis and Pendleton for the event are Daniel Craig, currently starring on Broadway in A Steady Rain, as well as Maggie Gyllenhaal, Linda Emond and Mike Nichols. The concert is comprised of musical numbers composed by Jeanine Tesori for the Public's production of the Bertolt Brecht play, translated by Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Kushner and directed by George C. Wolfe.
Swenson appeared in the Public's 2008 Shakespeare in the Park revival of Hair, transferring with show show when it made the leap to Broadway in 2009. Creel joined the production for the transfer.
Proceeds from the event will go to American Jewish World Service and Partners in Health.
